PreS Up-- A simple, reassuring guide for making the most of the time spent with a new baby for new siblings and/or adults. Brown offers insights, encouragement, and inspiration for play while observing the development of the five senses and the importance of movement for babies. Watercolor and pencil illustrations in soft tones portray a wide variety of babies engaged in a broad range of activity. The information presented is intentionally brief and easy to read, resulting in an attractive, informal approach to a potentially daunting endeavor. On occasion, however, clarity suffers from this brevity, (e.g. no timelines for development are included, and infant activities vary with age), while other advice seem superfluous (a page devoted to "ways to travel"). Caution should also be exercised; one suggestion is to offer a pan of hot muffins as an object for a baby to smell at close range.
