About the Author:
Doug Crandell is the 2001 recipient of the Sherwood Anderson Foundation Fiction Award, as well as the River City/Hohenberg Award. In 2004 a memoir, Pig Boy'’s Wicked Bird, will be published by Chicago Review Press, and Ludlow Press will bring out his first novel. His essays and stories have appeared in Smithsonian Magazine, the SUN, River Oak Review, Hawaii Review, and elsewhere.

Greg Downs is a student in the PhD program in history at Northwestern University, where he studies the 19th-century American South. His fiction has appeared or is forthcoming in Meridian, the Southeast Review, CutBank, Chicago Reader, South Dakota Review, and the Greensboro Review, and has been a finalist for awards given by Glimmer Train and Wind. A graduate of Yale University and the Iowa Writers'’ Workshop, he lives in Chicago with his wife Diane and their two cats.

Mandy Dawn Kuntz was born in Texas and moved to California when she was eight. She is a graduate of California State University, Northridge. She has had multiple publications in the Northridge Review and was the recipient of their 2001 awards in poetry and fiction. This is her first publication outside of the university setting.

Danit Brown'’s stories have appeared in Glimmer Train, Story, and Indiana ¬Review. She is currently working on her MFA at Indiana University.

Born in 1972, Aaron Gwyn grew up on a farm in central Oklahoma. He recently received his PhD from the University of Denver and now teaches fiction writing and American literature at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. In the spring of 2004, Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill will release his short-story collection, Dog on the Cross; his novel, Ink, is forthcoming from Algonquin as well. Aaron’'s fiction has appeared in New Stories from the South: The Year’s Best, 2002, Louisiana Literature, American Literary Review, Black Warrior Review, storySouth.

Andrew Kass is a Staten Islander. Carole, Jenna, and Liana join him in this off-beat mote of New York City.

Brad Barkley is the author of three books, most recently the novels Alison’'s Automotive Repair Manual, a Booksense 76 selection, and Money, Love, also a Booksense selection and named "Best Book of 2000" by the Washington Post. His next collection of stories, Another Perfect Catastrophe, will be published in March of 2004. He has won numerous awards, including four Maryland State Arts Council Awards and an NEA Fellowship. He lives in western Maryland.

A. Papatya Bucak is an assistant professor in the MFA program at Florida Atlantic University. She has published stories and poems in various magazines, including the Literary Review, Ohio Review, and Clackamas Literary Review.

Michelle Bitting was a modern dancer and a chef before becoming a mother, poet, and devoted outreach worker. Her poems have been seen or are forthcoming in Prairie Schooner, Many Mountains Moving, Gargoyle, Pearl, Rattle, and Dogwood.

Ronald F. Currie, Jr. lives in Waterville, Maine, where he was born and raised. His work has appeared in the Virginia Adversaria, the Paumanok Review, Eclectica Magazine, and other publications.

Tamara Titus has received a regional artist grant from the Charlotte Arts & Science Council, and her stories have appeared in Cottonwood, Emrys Journal, the Distillery, and Lonzie's Fried Chicken.

Lydia Copeland has published in Monkey Bicycle, Eyeshot, Reed, Product, and JobStories. She is the fiction editor of the online magazine Dicey Brown.

Andrea Barrett's works of fiction include Ship Fever, Middle Kingdom, and Servants of the Map.
