Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Hardcover. 4to. Ernest Benn, Limited. 1923. 20 pgs text, followed by 152 plates, 49 in color, illustrating 199 pieces, all with descriptions. First Edition/First Printing. Number 1081 of 1500 copies. Bound in grey cloth with gilt titles present to the spine. Boards have wear present to the extremities of the boards (boards lightly faded to the spine). Bookplate present to the reverse of the front board. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. Before being written, this book had one aim: "to furnish collectors with a series of representations of some of the finest examples (of china) which are known to exist." To accomplish this goal some 180 pieces of china were carefully photographed and provided with descriptive captions. These examples chronicle increasingly complex techniques and changing fashion in form and color. They depict: Greek amphrae, ewers, deities, dragons, burial guards, etc. All delicately modeled and glazed with illustrations. Collectors already know the worth of this book; readers and art lovers will find why "china" is the best word for it. E-97; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 20 pages.
